This Year 6 Using Is and Are worksheet set helps pupils practise an important part of subject-verb agreement: knowing when to use is and when to use are.
Across the three differentiated worksheets, pupils begin by choosing or writing the correct verb in simple sentences before moving on to more challenging examples where the subject is hidden within a longer noun phrase. The higher-level tasks include collective nouns and tricky sentence structures, such as the herd of deer, the series of paintings, the pieces of evidence and the swarm of bees.
The worksheets also include sentence correction and paragraph editing tasks, helping pupils apply the skill in context rather than simply choosing between two options. This makes the set useful for grammar lessons, homework, revision, intervention work or SATs-style preparation.
This resource is designed for Year 6 pupils, but it may also be useful for confident Year 5 pupils or older pupils who need extra practice with subject-verb agreement.
