🔺 Three levels to suit different learning needs

• Triangle: the lower-ability level within each topic.
• Circle: the middle-ability level.
• Square: the higher-ability level, offering further challenge.

The progression varies by topic rather than following one fixed number range.

For adding multiples of 10, triangle worksheets use four-digit starting numbers, circle worksheets use five-digit numbers and square worksheets use six-digit numbers.

For subtracting multiples of 10, all three levels use five-digit starting numbers. The amounts subtracted increase from 20–60 at triangle level, to 80–240 at circle level and 220–400 at square level.

Mental addition moves from adding large whole numbers at triangle level to decimals with up to three decimal places at circle level. Square learners apply mental addition to word problems involving whole numbers, decimals, money and measurements.

Mental subtraction includes subtracting round amounts from numbers in the millions at triangle level, subtracting amounts such as 4,020 and 30,700 at circle level, and finding missing numbers in subtraction calculations at square level. The square worksheet includes a counting-up hint.

Several word-problem sets increase the size of the numbers at higher levels. The mixed sets also develop pupils’ ability to decide which operation to use. Word-problem worksheets provide answer lines and space for working.

🎯 Skills covered

• Place value and calculation with large whole numbers
• Mental addition and subtraction
• Rounding, partitioning and choosing efficient addition strategies
• Decimal addition
• Adding and subtracting multiples of 10
• Finding missing numbers using inverse relationships
• Identifying relevant information in word problems
• Choosing addition or subtraction
• Completing one-step and two-step calculations
• Applying calculations to money, quantities and metric measurements

The original contexts include £ and $ amounts, together with units such as km, metres, kg, cm, mm and seconds.

🏫 Curriculum and assessment relevance

Suitable for Year 6 primary maths practice, with opportunities to revisit earlier skills and extend confident learners.

The calculation and problem-solving activities can help pupils practise foundational skills used in SATs and NAPLAN. This is a topic practice bundle, rather than a complete assessment preparation course. It is not officially endorsed by or affiliated with either assessment programme, and no official curriculum alignment is claimed.

🌍 Useful for international learners

Suitable for customers in the UK and Australia, and also useful for teachers, parents, tutors, home educators and learners in the United States, Canada and other English-speaking countries.

Primary and upper elementary maths and math learners can use the activities according to their existing knowledge. Year 6 labels do not imply an exact international grade equivalence. Original UK spelling, currency symbols and metric units are retained.
