Year 5 Suffixes: -ant, -ance and -ancy Worksheets (874-876)
This Year 5 Suffixes: -ant, -ance and -ancy worksheet set helps pupils understand how words change when different suffixes are added. Children practise recognising adjective and noun forms such as important / importance, distant / distance, vacant / vacancy, hesitant / hesitancy and relevant / relevance.
The activities support pupils in choosing the correct word form, completing words with the correct suffix, matching adjectives to nouns, using words accurately in sentences and explaining meanings. This makes the resource useful for spelling, grammar, vocabulary development and wider writing accuracy.
The set is differentiated across three levels:
Triangles focus on sorting words by suffix, completing word endings, matching related adjective and noun forms, and choosing the correct word in sentences.
Circles complete sentences using a word bank and change root words into the correct suffix form, including words such as performance, appearance, tolerance, guidance, occupancy and brilliant.
Squares apply the words in more challenging sentence and meaning tasks, including identifying the correct word, explaining meanings in full sentences and rewriting sentences using the correct suffix form.
This resource is suitable for Year 5 English, KS2 spelling and grammar, homework, intervention groups, revision lessons and independent practice. It also supports preparation for KS2 SATs spelling, punctuation and grammar tasks and is useful for NAPLAN language conventions practice, especially for pupils developing spelling patterns, word families and vocabulary accuracy.
