Year 5 Prefixes Worksheets (739-741)

£1.00

This Year 5 Prefixes worksheet set helps pupils build confidence with recognising, using and understanding a range of common prefixes, including mis-, re-, pre-, sub-, dis- and un-.

Children practise matching prefixes to their meanings, adding prefixes to root words, choosing the correct prefixed word in context, writing definitions, and using prefix words accurately in their own sentences. The activities are designed to support vocabulary development, spelling knowledge and understanding of how prefixes change the meaning of words.

The worksheets are differentiated across three levels:

Triangles – Support
Pupils match common prefixes to their meanings, add prefixes to root words and write simple sentences using prefixed words.

Circles – Core
Pupils complete sentences using prefixed words, choose the correct word in context and write short child-friendly meanings for words such as misunderstand, rewrite, unusual, disconnect, predict and disapprove.

Squares – Challenge
Pupils work with higher-level vocabulary including miscalculate, reorganise, subheading, unusual, invisible and disapprove. They explain meanings and write their own sentences using prefixed words correctly.

This resource is ideal for Year 5 spelling lessons, grammar practice, homework, revision, intervention groups or independent classroom work. Answer sheets are included to make marking quicker and easier.
