  10. Drawing Clock Hands โ€“ converting digital times into analogue clock representations

๐Ÿ“ˆ Differentiation and Learning Progression

The three levels provide a visible progression within every topic:

  • Ordering Numbers: progresses from ordering groups of four mainly three-digit numbers to groups of five mixed three- and four-digit numbers, followed by five four-digit numbers.

  • Rounding: begins with rounding to the nearest 10, moves to rounding to the nearest 100 and finishes with rounding four-digit numbers to both the nearest 10 and 100.

  • Partitioning: develops from mainly two-digit numbers to three-digit numbers, then to four- and five-digit numbers containing a wider variety of place-value structures and zeros.

  • More Than and Less Than: progresses from finding 100 more or less to finding 200 and then 300 more or less, with increasingly large numbers.

  • 3D Shapes: begins with sorting familiar objects by shape, then adds the properties of cubes, spheres, cuboids and cylinders. The higher level also increases the range of objects to classify.

  • Doubling: increases from numbers up to 20 to larger two-digit numbers, including numbers into the 90s.

  • Halving: increases from even numbers up to 50 to larger even numbers extending into the hundreds.

  • Fractions of Amounts: starts with unit fractions including halves, thirds, quarters and fifths, introduces non-unit fractions and finishes with a greater concentration of non-unit fractions and larger amounts. Each level also includes a fraction vocabulary word search.

  • Telling the Time: moves from recording analogue times in numbers to expressing times in words, then to recording p.m. times in both 12-hour and 24-hour formats.

  • Drawing Clock Hands: progresses from hours, half hours and quarter hours to a broader range of five-minute and exact-minute digital times.

Where present, reminders and completed first examples provide additional support before pupils work independently.
