Learners begin by adding -ment and -ness to familiar root words. They match root words to completed nouns, select vocabulary to complete sentences and identify correctly spelt words such as kindness, payment, darkness, movement and enjoyment.
⭕ Circle – Developing level
The middle level introduces a broader selection of vocabulary. Learners form new words, sort nouns according to their suffix and apply suitable -ment and -ness words in sentence contexts. Vocabulary includes fairness, weakness, fitness, agreement, punishment and excitement.
⬜ Square – Challenge level
The highest level explores more demanding spelling changes. Learners work with words in which y changes to i before -ness, as well as selected -ment words where the final e is removed.
