Pupils choose from the prefixes mis-, dis-, re-, pre-, sub-, im-, anti-, extra- and inter- to form new words. They then match prefixed words to their meanings and use selected vocabulary in original sentences.
⭕ Circle – developing level
Pupils match a broader selection of prefixed words to definitions, select suitable words to complete sentences in context and write their own sentences. This level reduces the initial word-building support and places greater emphasis on meaning and application.
⬜ Square – higher-challenge level
Pupils independently define six prefixed words before selecting vocabulary to complete contextual sentences and composing original sentences. This level demands more independent explanation, vocabulary knowledge and accurate application.
